Abstract:

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) revolutionizes urban transportation by seamlessly integrating various modes of transport through digital platforms. While extensively studied in developed nations, MaaS potential and challenges in cities like Chennai, India, remain largely unexplored. This research fills this gap by investigating MaaS adoption and barriers in Chennai. Through a comprehensive survey across strategic locations, including Guindy, Alandur, St. Thomas Mount, Meenambakkam, and Chennai Airport, data on user behavior and preferences regarding app-based mobility services were collected. Innovative methods such as social media outreach, Google Forms, and barcode scanning captured insights into passenger behavior and Socio-economic factors. Advanced analytical techniques like Principal Component Analysis, K-means Clustering, and ANOVA analysis revealed distinct user clusters, highlighting preferences and expectations. The study evaluated sustainability implications and the impact on public transport, identifying barriers specific to user clusters. These findings inform policymakers and transportation authorities, facilitating tailored strategies to enhance urban mobility and promote MaaS adoption. By addressing diverse user needs, MaaS can significantly enhance transportation efficiency and sustainability in Chennai's urban landscape.
