Driven by intelligence: How AI is reshaping the way we move

E.M. Choueiri
Pages: 39-56

Abstract:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the transportation sector by improving safety, efficiency, and sustainability across road, rail, air, and urban mobility systems. Leveraging machine learning, computer vision, and predictive analytics, AI enables real-time traffic management, autonomous driving, predictive maintenance, and optimized routing—cutting costs, reducing emissions, and enhancing user experience. However, challenges such as data privacy, regulatory gaps, infrastructure demands, and workforce disruption must be addressed. This paper examines real-world AI applications in transportation, assesses their benefits and limitations, and proposes strategies for responsible, scalable adoption to support a smarter, more sustainable future of mobility.
Keywords: Artificial Intelligence; Intelligent Transportation Systems; Autonomous Vehicles; predictive maintenance; urban mobility; smart traffic management
