Abstract:

To address issues such as decreased traffic capacity due to lane occupation during the reconstruction and expansion of highway toll plazas, mismatches between traffic demand and capacity at toll entries and exits, and vehicle queuing that disrupts the stable operation of adjacent intersections, this study analyzes the impact of traffic organization and diversion schemes during toll plaza reconstruction on lane throughput. An optimized lane control approach is proposed, involving dynamic lane functionality and directional switching during the reconstruction period, coordinated with adjacent intersections. A coordinated control optimization model is established to enhance the traffic efficiency in the connecting areas. Case analysis reveals that the toll plaza lane control strategy can flexibly accommodate the fluctuating traffic demands at entries and exits, maximizing the throughput potential of the toll plaza. Furthermore, coordinated management with adjacent intersections during the reconstruction period effectively prevents vehicle queuing spillover, maintaining stable operational conditions in the connecting area.
